Students spent time with Kurt Mueller, original founder of CARSTAR Maryville on Friday. This visit kicked off with a tour of the operation that now spans 3 buildings with more expansion in sight. While his son now owns the business, it continues to grow after more than 40 years of serving customers. Over his lifetime, his children are accomplished business owners today and grandchildren that continue to take on challenges in school and athletics.

Kurt shared the importance of believing in yourself and encouraged the students to find something where you can smile when you can go to work every day. A few themes with the tour and the discussion:
- Always be sure to dream and envision your future. The book Think and Grow Rich was pivotal in understanding how much your mind and what you believe can control aspects of you life.
- Efficiency in process, joining CARSTAR and adopting their streamlined approach and retention of the best employees contributes to meeting yearly turn around time to the customer, keeping strong metrics in the industry and increasing revenue/profit each year.
- Learned very early on how to be a leader vs being a boss. Always get your team to do more for you than you can do for yourself.
- A few more driving principles from Kurt - We are the captain of our thoughts. It's your brain. You control your brain. Your brain controls your future. Thoughts are things. If you can see it and believe it - you can achieve it!
